Welcome to sunny Norfolk! Doesn’t quite have the same ring perhaps as “Welcome to Honolulu”, but Norfolk, on the east coast of Britain, has long been a popular warm weather destination for the Brits. How long? Well, since about 48 AD when Britain’s Roman conquerors began visiting the region to build roads and shipping ports.
Since those days, besides seeing its fair share of tourists, Norfolk has also witnessed the birth of many prominent Brits. Now, as we all know, the Brits love their tea. So, when it came time for us to develop a new tea blend, we decided to name it after the home of such cup draining luminaries as Robert Walpole (1676-1745), Britain’s first Prime Minister, Lord Horatio Nelson (1758-1805), Britain’s most noted naval commander, and most famously, Diana, the late Princess of Wales (1961 – 1997) – all three known to partake in a nice cuppa.
So, what do you put into a blend that serves to commemorate such greatness and grandeur? Excellent question. To begin with, we use only the top 2% of the world’s tea production. Further, we blend teas from around the former British Empire, everything from a high grown Ceylon for flavory floral notes, a South Indian for roundness of body and two different Assams for malty depth and profound color. To this we further blended a bakey Imperial Keemun from China, (traditionally the base for all English Breakfast teas) and a good measure of Earl Grey to round out the blend. The cup is exceptionally smooth hinting at citrus, berry jams and toast with a long lingering finish. It's the perfect tea to have with toast and marmalade, in bed, while perusing the Sunday paper. (Incidentally, the breakfast Diana had on the morning of her wedding to Prince Charles.) Raise a piping cup to Norfolk!
Hot tea brewing method: Bring freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil. Place 1 teaspoon of tea for each cup into the teapot. Pour the boiling water into the teapot. Cover and let steep for 3-7 minutes according to taste (the longer the steeping time the stronger the tea). Even though milk and a dash of sugar help enhance the flavor character of this tea, it is perfectly acceptable to consume this tea ‘straight-up’
