Well, you can breathe a sigh of relief. A Pomologist is actually one who studies apples and how to grow them. And, truth be told, in Today’s global economy, the position can be quite lucrative. What’s more, your son or daughter will be able to regale family members with fascinating and wonderful facts about apples, one of the oldest fruits known to humankind. They’ll come home for thanksgiving and as the family sits down to some spicy apple pie, they will no doubt explain that archaeological evidence suggests that humans were enjoying the tarty round globes as far back as 6500 B.C. As you spoon out seconds of the accompanying vanilla ice cream your budding Pomologist will without question explain that it takes the photosynthetic energy of 50 leaves to produce one apple. Or that the oldest known apple tree in America was planted in 1647 by Peter Stuyvesant in his Manhattan orchard, reputedly still bearing fruit when it was struck by a derailed train in 1866. Some ideas for blending:
• 2 parts freeze dried apple • 2 parts peppermint
• 1 part chamomile • 1/2 part dried lemon peel • 1/4 part fine cut cinnamon • 2 parts natural dried apple
• Thoroughly blend all ingredients in a drum or large bowl and place in jars or tins. (Adjust ingredients for larger quantities.)
Apple Iced Tea
To prepare an all-natural apple iced tea, simply infuse a handful of dried apple along with a medium bodied pot of tea. Pour over ice, garnish by adding a few apple pieces to each cup and serve. (We recommend a Ceylon tea, eg. Apple flavored black tea as a base tea.)
